How to Measure Mast Rake

1

Attach Tape Measure to Halyard

Attach a measuring tape or string to the main halyard shackle. Hoist it to the top of the mast (fully up).

2

Pull Tape to Transom

Pull the tape measure tight (under moderate tension) from the halyard shackle to the TOP CENTER of the transom.

3

Read the Measurement

Note the measurement in millimeters or inches. Typical range: 6750mm - 6950mm (266" - 274").

Important: Measure with the rig tensioned to your sailing settings. A slack rig will give inaccurate readings.

Ready to Check

Measure your current mast rake following the guide on the left, then enter your measurement to get instant feedback.

Pro Tip: More rake (bigger number) = more weather helm. Less rake = less helm but potentially less pointing ability.
